TERRIFIC EXPLOSION
LABORATORY WRECKED. SCIENTIST BADLY HURT. (Times Cable.) (Received 9 a.m.). LONDON, November 6. The Helsingfors correspondent of the “Times” states that an explosion of the mysterious newly-discovered atomic element “No, 87” severely ..injured a scientist, Air Aartovaard, who will probably lose his sight. ■ ■ The new element was recently identified in samarskite by American experts, but it was believed to be indissoluble, owing to its high inflammability. Air Aartovaard was attempting to isolate it when a t'crrific • detonation partly wrecked his laboratory. In spite of his injuries Air Aartovaard was able to make a statement, expressing the opinion that the explosion was due to the element’s radioactive influence on perchloric acid.
