BOXING
EXPENSES WON EASILY. REPLY TO LEGKIE. NOTHING FOR DIVISION. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) NEW PLYMOUTH, This Day,
In reply to the protest from Napier that Johnny Leckie received nothing from his title ibout with Donovan, association officials state that expenses totalling £9 were given to him, and it had been agreed among members, [though not confirmed by a meeting, that a bonus of £SO would be presented to the two contestants. The agreement signed by the parties stipulated that 75 per cent, of the net receipts would go to the boxers. The receipts total-] led £126, and the expenses £l3O, so | actually nothing was left for division. The assertion by the Napier Association 5 s secretary that there is another ruling governing percentage bouts is refuted. The only rule is that concerning specifically champion bouts, such as the one in dispute, which states that the net purse is £SO. The association automatically complied with this rule when deciding on the bonus. Leekie will probably receive £3O as his share. That the receipts did not amount to more was not the fault of the association or the boxers, but was a sign of the times.
