NOT TO CLOSE
DUNEDIN TRAINING COLLEGE,
(Special to “Northern Advocate.”) DUNEDIN, This Day. The .Dime*tin Training College is not to be closed. Definite word to that effect was received yesterday by Mr. Wallace, chairman of the Otago Education Board. “No present intention to close college. Deputation to Minister arranged, but unnecessary,” states a telegram from the Hon. D. T. Fleming, a member of the Education Board, Telegrams were sent by the board to members of Parliament in the Otago district asking for their support of the protest against the reported proposed closing of the college. Mr, W, B. Taverner replied that he had interviewed and received the following reply from the Minister of Education: “Owing to the retirement of the principal of the Training College at Christchurch, and to the large number of students at Auckland, both of these institutions are understaffed. Whilst the Otago Training College is overstaffed, in the circumstances, a rearrangement is being effected by the transfer of two of the Dunedin men, one to each training college in Christchurch and Auckland”
