The coastguard officials at Boston held an inquiry into the sinking of the British power boat Sophie, by a coastguard patrol boa't, 1 the Jester, at which the boatswain of the patrol boat denied charges that his boat deliberately sank the Sophie. Mr Matthew McGrath, .counsel‘/retained by the British Consulate for the .Sophie’s crew, asked that h'ejbe allowed to transcript all the evidence at the hearing. When he was refused he asserted that the hearing would bo “whitewash.” He said he would, not permit any of the Sophie’s crew to give evidence and would appeal to the British Embassy at Washington. # He would also file a claim for damages against the Jester in the Civil Courts.
