RUGBY FOOTBALL FRICTION

FRENCH PROFESSIONALISM. REFORMATIVE PROPOSALS. (Received 9 a.m.) PARIS, November 5. A joint meeting of the French Rugby Federation and the Amateur Rugby Union, the opposing sides in the controversy which arose after the demand by the British Rugby Union that France should expel professionalism, agreed to examine a scheme for reorganisation. The proposals include the establishment of absolute amateurism, the suppression of the regional championship, the creation of a committee of the management to administer the rules, and also a committee of three, who would guarantee that French international players were fully amateurs, and also be responsible for their good behaviour. It is now hoped that the international matches with British teams will be resumed in the present season.

CAMBRIDGE BLUE. AWARD TO NEW ZEALANDER. (Received 9 a.m.) LONDON, November 4. 11. B. L. Johnstone, of New Zealand, has been awarded his Blue for Rugby at Cambridge University.
