KNOCKED UNCONSCIOUS
FRACAS ON A FARM. RINGLEADER FINED £lO. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) HAWERA, This Day. As the result of an affray on an Ohangai farm about 10 p.m. on October 7, when Lawrence Kitnoy, a farm hand, was knocked unconscious and was in hospital for the next seven days, Walter Wallace was fined £3 0, and ordered to pay £~> 13/- expenses by Mr ,L H. Salmon, S.M., on a charge of having assaulted Kitney.
I' 1 ! ve youths, Reginald Harding, Stewart Savage, James O’Shea, Peter O'Shea and Ronnie Tapp wore each fined £2 for aiding and abetting' Wallace. A charge against a sixth youth, George Reid, of having aided and altbetted in the offence, was adjourned. ICltnoy was employed by 0. A, Williams, and two other men, whilst living in a tent on a. property acquired by Williams, of which Wallace was previously the owner, declined to leavt. Disputing the claim, and believing he was justified in taking possession, Wallace's party, it was alleged, let down the tent at night, and when Kitney went for help the assault om-urml.
The Magistrate said lie considered Wallace to be the prime mover in the offence. It was almost a ease for im.prisonmont.
{ Addressing the others, Mr .Salmon said: ‘You boys went there armed with sticks and a man was injured. There were six of yon to attack one man at night, which was a very nnBritish action and very disgraceful. ”
