“CHARITY” STAMPS

FIGHT AGAINST TUBERCULOSIS,

‘ ‘ Charity ’ ’ stamps were placed on sale at all post offices in the Dominion on Saturday, the 31st ult., in continuation of the anti-tuberculosis campaign commenced in 1929.

On this occasion, there will be two denominations of “Charity” stamps — a 3d stamp (2d postage and Id charity) for letters and other articles on which postage of 2d is required, and a 2d stamp (Id postage and Id charity) for newspapers, Christmas cards, packets and other qrticles on whjeh the postage is Id, . - The-fuids raised' will-be applied to the establishment of permanent, bases throughout the .. dominion , for children ’s health camps, which will be organised in a satisfactory and businesslike way, with the co-operation of local communities. With the funds subscribed during the efforts of the two previous years, the erection of the first camp has been commenced, and it is hoped that it will be used early in 1932. The movement is- a first line attack on incipient tuberculosis. The opinion is definitely held by medical authorities that many children who are contacts of tuberculosis' in their own homos may be saved from contracting the disease if they are removed for a time to a health camp in the country. It is to help children whose parents cannot afford to provide thifv protection from the danger of infection that the appeal is made. There is urgent need for united action; and, notwithstanding that the present is a ,very difficult period, it is hoped that all members of the community will assist to the best of their ability. Only a little is asked, but that little is asked of everyone.

It may be added that the stamps will be on sale for a limited period—probably until the end of February next. Surplus stocks of previous issues of “Charity” stamps have been destroyed; and, when the stamps which are now about to be placed on sale are withdrawn, surplus stocks of these will also be destroyed.
