OBITUARY
MjR W. PAR-TON. (Per Press Association. —Copyright.) CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. The death occurred on November 3 of Mr Wflliam Parton, at the age of 82 years. He landed in New Zealand in 1867, lived at Dunedin, and afterwards at Wellington. He |eaves a family of two daughters and seven sons, who arc well-known all over New Zealand. MR ROBT. WILLIAMS. Advice has been received in Wellington of the death in Sydney of Mr Walter Armiger Bowring, a prominent New Zealand artist, aged 57 years. Mr Bowring was a son of Mr and Mrs Alfred Bowring, of Auckland, who arrived in New -Zealand, from London in 1856. Mr Bowring was educated at the Auckland Grammar School and commenced his career on the Auckland ‘ ‘ Observer, ” and subsequently was cartoonist to the Christchurch “Spectator” and the “Weekly Press.” He went to London in 1905 and studied under the late ‘ Sir William Orpen and Mr Augustus John. Mr Bowring returned to New Zealand, but again went to London in 1921, when he was elected to the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. He was a contributor to London “Punch” and other, English journals, and was vice-president of the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts and member of the Royal Art Society, Sydney.
