ELECTORAL JJAY OF ISLANDS ELECTORATE LADIES AND GENTLEMEN— I am again a candidate for Parliament, and will address meetings in various centres during the next few weeks. I find myself in sharp disagreement with the Forbes-Coates Government on vital questions of policy, particularly in regard to the Government’s failure to deal drastically with interest rates and rent reductions. These questions were fully investigated by the Parliamentary Inter-Party Economic Committee. The case for relief was, in my opinion, fully proved, and demanded that the Government should introduce measures of a drastic nature to meet the situation, and this they have failed to do. Unless these questions are dealt with by Parliament and money returns, such as interest, are brought into line ■with reduced values of primary production and labour, there will be a grave danger of an economic (collapse. The Government’s policy is that of high taxation, both direct and indirect, which can only restrict production and! enterprise, thus preventing a return to the prosperity we all desire to see, j Among other questions of importance j that the Government has failed to ade- j quately deal with are the wheat and flour duties, which vitally affect the cost of living. This question will have to be fought out in the new Parliament. T will deal with these and other important matters when addressing yon. Yours faithfully, 748 H. M. RUSHWORTH.
