RUSSELL NEWS

(From Our Own Correspondent.) The newly-formed Russell Progress League, which is meeting with splendid support, held its first function, a voll-attendend dance, in the Bussell Hall, on .Monday last. In reply to its inquiry, the League has been informed that the Govcrnor-Genei-a! and Lady Bledisloo hope to visit Russell in the New Year. A round of festivities is being planned for the entertainment of visitors this season, including a floral fete in November, several functions in Christmas week, and a week's carnival ('embracing sports, aquatics, etc.) to be held in January, when largo numbers of visitors arc expected in tthe town.
