The, returns of the British general elections are completed with the result from Combined Universities (two seats) as follows; Miss Eleanor Rathbone (Ind.) 5096 Sir R. Craddock (Con.) 4858 Sir William Jowitt (Nat, Lib.) . 3632 Harold Nicholson (New Party) 461 Results unchanged. The final state of the parties is as follows: —

Government, Conservatives 470 National Labour 13 National Liberal 65 National Independent .. 5 Opposition. Labour 51 Liberal (Lloyd George) . 7 Independents 4 CABINET PERSONNEL. PRIME MINISTER’S OWN CHOICE. CHANCELLORSHIP VARIATON. (British Official Wireless.! (Received noon.) RUGBY, November 2.

The Prime Minister will go to Lossiemouth tomorrow night for a few days in order to rest. Regarding the selection of the Cabinet, it is understood that the Ministers chosen will be Mir MacDonald’s personal choice and will be based on their suitability for their particular department, and their ability 'to work as part of a team. Although it is usual that the Prime Minister’s principal lieutenant takes office as Chancellor of the Exchequer, it is generally believed that a departure from this practice will be made and that M,r Baldwin will occupy No. 11, Downing Street, thus facilitating close personal contact with the Prime Minister.

It is not thought that the new Cabinet will bo announced before the end of the week.

In an interview in the “Manchester Guardian,’ ’ Mr Lloyd ..George, the Liberal leader, urges that advanced Liberalism and Labour should work together for their common ends. While criticising much of the policy of the late Labour Government, he thinks there are points of agreement on which the progressive mind of all parties can collaborate. He says that Labour's present methods of recruitment are too narrow to enable them to become a truly national party within a generation.

His Majesty the King received Mr Baldwin, and it is understood that the general political situation was discussed.
