MARITIME DISPUTE
NO OFFICIAL STATEMENT. CONFERENCE ADJOURNED. (Received 9 a.m.) SYDNEY, November 2. The compulsory conference at Melbourne in connection with the seamen’s strike has been adjourned till Wednesday. No official statement has been issued. ORDERED TO RESUME, FREE LABOUR ALTERNATIVE, (Received 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. It is officially reported in Sydney that the conference instructed the seaijien’s unions to order the men back to their ships. If the strikers refuse the shipowners will feel at liberty to call for volunteers. Calls will be made in the morning for most of the idle ships in port. There was no development in the strike, and nothing untoward happened in any port yesterday. All interest was centred on the deliberations of the compulsory conference.
