BIG FISH LANDED

| EXCITING'INCIDENT. JAMMED IN' WHARF PILES. (Special to “Northern Advocate.’’) WARKWORTH, This Day. About 11 o’clock yesterday mornin|g, a monster fish, weighing about 8001bs and measuring 13ft 2in, was landed at the wharf after a strenuous fight. It was observed about 8 a.m. swimming u,p and down the river, and a large crowd soon gathered to watch the operations of the monster as it came to the surface at three-minute, intervals. The fish later in the morning travelled about 300 yards down the river, and its huge body became caught between the piles of the wharf. A rope lassoo was thrown over its tail, and an endeavour made to haul it on to the wharf. The fish fought so strongly that a stronger rope had to be attached, and, eventually it was landed. A derrick from the scow Jane Gifford was requisitioned and the catch hoisted in mid-air, where it was surrounded by a large crowd. A resident later carted the fish away with the intention of burying it for manure. ResicKmts stated that they < had seen similar fish at the heads, about 12 miles from where the capture was effected. The wharf is about eight miles from deep water.
