SWIMMING CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING TONIGHT. PAST SEASON REVIEWED. The annual meeting of the Whangarei Amateur Swimming Club will be held tonight, when the president’s report will be presented as follows: —

“Two carnivals were held during the season, one of which was of benefit to the club, the other carnival being in aid of the Earthquake Relief Fund. Neither carnival was up to the financial standard of previous seasons, but' in both there was a grand display of swimming, which in some cases was of exceptional merit. As in the past, club nights were held eA’ery week throughout the season, a fair number of members always attending, and some very good training was accomplished. “The matter of trophies is a difficult problem to cope with, the committee doing some very hard work in this direction. A great help to the club is the donation of trophies by the Herbert Smith Trust fund. These trophies are of a very good class. The Ladies’ Club kindly donated two cups for competition during club nights, and these were, well contested for.

“The financial position of the club is revealed by the balance sheet, and owing to the difficult times at present in existence, we could not hope for very much better. The educational part of swimming will bo furnished separately by Mr. Geo. Reid, in Avhdse able hands this line of the sport is left. “In conformity with our rules, Mr. A. J. Murdoch (patron), His Worship the Mayor, Mr. W. Jones (president), Messrs. L. J. Brake, H, C. Eishworth, W. Given and C. Collins (vice-presi-dents), H. J. Preebc, Geo. Reid, J. Redwood, J. Nicholls, K. G. M. Kelly and W. Orr (members of the committee), K. Symington (club captain), A. Calvert (vice-captain), , A. Fairley (hon. auditor), G. Reid (educational), H. R.
