THE LATE W.A. CARRUTH
THE FUNERAL. The funeral of (he late Air W. A. Carruth took place this afternoon, the body being laid to rest in the Alaimu Cemetery. The large number who attended to pay respect to his memory was an eloquent tribute to the high esteem iu which the deceased gentleman was held by every class in the community. It was notable that old settlers from all parts of the district funned a considerable proportion of the mourners, thus testifying to the fact that it was in the days of sparse population, when men knew one another in the real sense of the word, that the late Air Carruth laid the foundation of a reputation which he maintained to the last. A very large
number of .floral offerings covered the casket and filled an accompanying vehicle. A service at the home', prior to the funeral, and'the last rites at, the giaYeside "were conducted in an impressive manner by the Rev. Win. Elliott ALA. Members of the Masonic fraternity were present in force and the' beautiful ritual of the fraternity was read impressively by AY. Bro. J. E. Holmes.
The pall-bearers were Messrs W. Jones, J. N. McCarroll, H. ■C. .-vEi-sh-worth, H. L. Haden and C. Bisset. As a mark of rospe’et' to the memory of the deceased, the lawyers’ offices and the High School were closed, members of the legal profession and teachers and scholars attending the funeral.
