The lioines of four settlers were seriously eMdngoftd by a bfish fife which swept down tho Blue Duck Valley, id the Kaikoura Ranges, about 12 miles front the toWn.
Fro in the valley head the flariies spread through some heavy bush on Mr F. Gibbons’ property, seriously endangering this and the hollies On the farm of Messrs E. Gibson, Ralph Smith, E. Wallace and Ralph Parsohs. Einally the fire burned itself out in clearer land.
Mr Smith and his family had a trying experience. The fife spread through gras;! right to his home, and it was only through the use of -a hose that his buildings wore kept from patching fire. No stock Was lost.
