THEY SAY-
That the team travelling to Dargarille should give a good account of itself.
The juniors left yesterday afternoon for Kaitaia in quest of the Drake Shield. The forwards are a weighty proposition, and, given a dry ground will give our fast backs plenty of the ball, and they should do the rest. Players do not pay sufficient attention to their boots. The buttons in purtifeular should be looked at weekly. The rep. players will do well to see to this important point.
The meeting at Hikurangi this week was a decided success, but a larger attendance of club representatives would bo an even greater improvement. The rules of the local union are to he revised in the off-season, and not before tiiqe. Numerous cases have come under the notice of the committee that are not specially provided for. The lenoek-out competition this year will probably be a knock-out only in name, for, if at all possible, one complete round will be played. The selector has promised to publish his team after today’s games. This will give the selected time to put in a week’s 'finishing touches. Especially important will be the practice next Wednesday night. This, as usual, will he held at the High School at 7.30. and every selected player is expected to make an effort to be present. Saturday’s inter-school game was very disappointing, for 'the visitors, with 1)9 -per cent, of tho. ball from serums and line-outs, showed no penetration, This may have been caused partly by the local players’ fine tackling, and there they reaped the bene-' fit of playing competition games against heavier teams. The senior games last week were not productive of the highesit-elass football. Hikurangi scored their first Win by accounting for the leaders in the competition. The white forwards played a sluggisTr~game, "but- still the opposition was good. The backs played fairly well, but. bad handling by Hosking lost two certain tries, although lie was not awarded a try that, from the side line, he appeared to score, following a clever bit of play by Collins. Hollows played one of his best games and Cameron came up to the three-quarter line in one passing bout, in tinie to score.
Congratulations to Kerr on his first step towards AH Black honours. He is seldom off his game, so should go very near to the desired goal. We wish him the beat of luck.
