AUCKLAND HARBOUR BRIDGE
CITY COUNCIL’S ACTION. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day. The Auckland Harbour Bridge Empowering Bill was mentioned at last night’s meeting of the City Council, when the Mayor, Mr G. W. Hutchison, reported that while in Wellington recently he had interviewed the Hon. A. ,T. Stallworthy on the question of modifications to the bill required by the council as indicated by the City Solid
tor. I In the case of Section 106, said Mr Hutchison, a basis of assessing the annual rental to be paid for the use of the bridge to carry water mains, electric cables, telephone lines, and gas pipes, had not been arrived at. After consideration, a basis was suggested of an annual rental computed at 5 per cent of the capital cost expended by the respective authorities in installing water mains, gas pipes, electric cables and telephone wires. Mr Willis, solicitor, and Captain secretary to the Auckland Harbour Bridge Company were present at his interview with the Minister, and their consent to the 5 per cent basis outlined above was obtained, as well as to several minor alterations considered necessary to remove ambiguity, and these matters being satisfactorily adjusted he handed to Mr Stallworthy a memorandum agreeing, on behalf of the council, to the passing of the bill as modified. I Mr A. J. Entrican said the report disclosed a satisfactory arrangement. Mr E. J. Phelan: “What is the bridge to cost'?” Mr Entrican: “The cost does not matter to us. M The Mayor said the 5 per cent had nothing to do with the cost of the bridge. The report was adopted.
