Wet weather mhrked the opening day of the Waikato Racing Club’s winter meeting, at Te Rapa on Saturday, and as a consequence the totalise tor investments amounted to only£7B3B 10s. Star Comet and King Ford were the only favourites to prevail on the day. The remaining event resulted as follows: Whitiora Hack Handicap, of \ 75 sovs; seven furlongs.—(7) Valueless, 9.4 (Goldfinch), 1; (5) L’Allegro, 9.5, 2; (4) Holly Holm, 9.5, 3, Also start- ; ed: (1) Steady Fire,.'' (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) HAMILTON, This Day. The concluding day of the Waikato, Racing Club’s winter meeting is being held in fine weather. There is only a fair attendance, and the course is very heavy. Results:— Maiden Hurdles, of 75 sovs; one mile and a half. —(8) Unoco, 9.8, 1; (2) Nassock, .10.2, 2; (1) 'Cool Mint, 9.13, 3. All started. \Yqn by eight lengths; third horse four lengths further away. Time —2,57 2-5.

(Special to “Northern Advocate.”) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. , A few seconds after the start of the Trial Handicap at the Ashburton Trotting Chib’s winter meeting on Saturday, Red Clover, who was leading the field, tripped and fell, a wheel of his sulky collapsing. The mishap to Red Clover brought down five other horses I—Aimworthy, 1 —Aimworthy, War Bird, Jester, Logan Fraser and 6un-< fire. Horses, drivers and sulkies wore all jinxed up in one struggling mass, and it was some time before order was ; restored. D. Withers, one of the drivers, received a severe shaking and could, not drive,again during the; . day, but the other drivers and all the ! horses miraculously escaped injury. , The gear of another horse, Sym-. tnetry, was damaged, and she was, pulled up in the straight.
