, MONTHLY MEETING. , A meeting of the Whangarei School Committee wan held in the school Boom at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Present: Messrs Stringer (chairman),- <2* B. Moore, Baker, Steedman, Owens, Balm er, C. J. Moore and Geo. Moore., Bar some time the playing field has been in a fairly bumpy condition and it was decided to make application to the Labour Department for assistance in levelling under the No. 5 unemployment scheme. It was reported that authority had now been received and arrangements were .being made for the work to be proceeded with as early as possible. It was proposed to level the ground. ' It was also decided to carry out several small alterations to the school rooms ¥or . which authority has been granted.,, The question of providing hot drinks to the younger children was left in the hands of Mr Collins and the secretary, Mr C. B. Moore.

The Government has, informed all school committees that a larger proportion of the cost of maintenane© of Dental Clinics must be borne by them. It was decided to .circularise aIL pais ents having children who are eligible for treatment to find out if they will! he willing to pay their share for such; treatment. The amount will be in the vicinity of Id per week approximately.

Tho committee viewed with, alarm the ever increasing danger whieh arises from motor vehicles, some of Avhich pass tho school at excessive speed, and it was decided to approach the traffic inspectors with a view of taking tho necessary action against, those responsible for exceeding the speed limit as laid down by the traffic regulations. Up io the present no serious accident had occurred, but if action was not taken it would not be long before something serious did happen. It was also decided to write to the A.A,A. representative and invite him to attend the •school wml give instruction, etc., re crossing the roads and watching traffic.
