GOMPKTITTOX CONTINUES. YESTERDAY’S GAMES. The Whangarei ladies’ hockey compel il ion was I'lintlnued yesterday in line weal her. Games were played on various grounds iu the district. School A Win. School A showed better combination in their meeting with Hinemoa and won by 3 goals to 2. Play in the first ten minutes was rather uninteresting. Hinemoa weio once within shooting distance and School also carried play to Hinemoa’s goal, but nothing resulted. School, however, were making more frequent incursions into their opponents’ territory 'and Aliss Hawken scored. School’s goalie was having an easy time, most of the play centring in midfield and in Hinemoa’s half. 'Just before half-time, however, Hinemoa broke through and things looked rather dangerous. They continued to press and a little later were awarded a penalty corner, but School carried play back. Hinemoa had another shot a little later, Aliss Crozier’s shot hitting the goal post. '.School immediately started an attack, but Hinemoa transferred play to the other end and Aliss Doel scored.

School were displaying much better combination than Hinemoa. Sticks spoiled a. good chance for School when they had carried the ball right up. Hinemoa saved well almost immediately after.

Hinemoa worked back and the ball was carried up the wing and centred for Aliss Dool to score a beautiful goal. Hinemoa had a spell of attacking, but School were soon back again and Aliss Eossitter shot, giving the goalie no chance.

School had to defend when Hinemoa rushed up and' there was a struggle in the goal-mouth, but it was successfully cleared. Hinemoa played -well to a certain point, but lacked combination. Hinemoa just saved when School swung back. The ball was deflected outside the goal by a few inches. Hinemoa had another attempt and drew the School goalie out, but soon after School also had a shot, but could not break through, Hinemoa saved well on two occasions and prevented almost certain looking scores. Miss Eossiter scored again for School in the last few minutes. Mr G. Tupp was referee. School A v. Avoca B. ' At the High 'School grounds, School B defeated Avoca B by 4 goals to 2. Mr P. Harrison was referee. Avoca A v. Portland. This game was 1 played at Kensington Park and resulted in a win for the former by 4 goals to 1. Portland pressed from the start, a twenty-five bully resulting, Avoca retaliated, the Portland goalie saving well and conceding a corner. After 15 minutes’ play, mostly in Portland’s half, Avoca shot wide. Portland took play to the other end, but spoilt a promising movement by hitting into touch instead of passing to the centre. Avoca forwards had a turn at attack, Airs Carnac goaling. Portland attacked from the bully, but Avoca repulsed them, taking play to the other end, where Miss Bench sent a hard shot over the top. Portland conceded a corner immediately afterwards, from which Miss O’Shea scored. Portland now put. more dash into their work, Miss E. Forbes being prominent. Avoca conceded two corners in quick succession, from the latter of which Mrs Carnac took play to the other end in a solo run and sent the ball across the goal-mouth for Miss Bcrich to send in a beauty. Half-time was called with Portland on the offensive.

On resuming - , Portland did most of the attacking for five minutes but their forwards lacked finish.

The next goal went to Avoea, Mrs Caraae finding the net from a corner hit.

They returned to the attack and Miss Thackeray, who was defending well, "was called upon to save. She returned to her forwards, Miss E, Forbes goaling from a good centre.

Both teams had turns at attack from then on, but spoilt chances through infringements. Play ended with Portland clearing from a corner and the score Avoea 4, Portland I. Comments. For Portland, Miss E. Forbes, on fho right wing and Miss Thackeray at fullback, were outstanding. Avoea. were an evenly balanced team. The game was anything but spectacular, being very ragged and uninteresting. Victory for Old Girls, Playing at flora flora, Old Girls defeated the flora flora team by Y goals to ft. after a good game.
