Dr. Cameion has resigned his position as Superintendent of the Mangonni Hospital and will leave in a few weeks’ time to take up private practice in Hawora. Xo nominations having been received for the position of assessor the Whangarei County Council decided today t<; ask Mr .T. X. McCnrroll to continue in that capacity. The Auckland Provincial Executive of the United Party decided last night to recommend endorsement by the Dominion Executive of the candidature for the general election of Mr M. J, Moore for Manukau, and Mr C. I. Harkness, for Franklin, Mr Arthur Hirst, formerly of New Zealand and recently . a visitor to Whangarei, had the unusual experience, says the London correspondent of the “Christchurch Press,” of delivering a pianoforte-lecture in the Swedish tongue on “Valuations in Music” before Swedish residents in London. They were rather surprised that an Englishspeaking man should be so w T ell acquainted with their own tongue. Mr Hirst is a gifted linguist and he always uses the language of each country he lectures in on the Continent.
