A serious accident nearly occurred in Bank Street this afternoon, when a boy riding a bicycle skidded on the bitumen and fell in the path of two cars proceeding up and down Bank 'Street respectively. Fortunately the boy fell in the middle of the roadway and neither car was travelling rapidly. The lad was uninjured by the mishap.

The information that there are 41 motor cars and trucks in Portland, was conveyed in a letter from the manager ■)f Wilsons (N.Z.) Cement Company to the Whangarei County Council, with reference to the pot-holed state of the road leading over the hill into the township. The riding member and engineer will investigate what can be done towards improving the road.
