New Zealand led by 19 points to nil at half-time, after which they

were never pressed. New South Wales fielded a scratch I team, which was completed at the last I moment. They missed their leader, Malcolm. Nevertheless the play of several potential players for the New (Zealand tour suffered through indifjfercnt displays. The match was regarded by the selectors as a trial. 'Bush outshone Boss in kicking, tackling and general resource. The real reason of the New Zealanders’ success was' the mastery of the fiveeighths, McTvechnie and Ewart. ( The forwards, although they lost I the scrums and barely held their own jin the line-out, proved vastly better | opportunists, particularly Dicdorich, King and Hodge. Mac Kay’s display I was superlative, and he w r as responsible for Diederich’s first try, with a I cross kick. He cleared Ross’ dive for the next try and then dropped a, goal shortly before half-time. Towers experimented with a drop kick on Kennedy’s wing. Mac Kay fielded the ball, and rolling -with it, outwitted Kennedy, and cantered across the line. The New South Wales backs were rearranged in the second half, during which New Zealand was unable to penetrate the defence until Ross, instead of line-finding, tried to punt over Diederich, who fielded the ball and passed on to Williams, who scored a try.
