DAMAGE TO GOLF COURSES, SEVERE WASH-OUTS. (Special to '‘Northern Advocate.*') WELLINGTON, This Day. The recent flood in the Hutt Valley has been responsible for heavy damage to golf courses. At the Manor Parle course about 15 acres have been affeefed, three acres being completely washed out. In some places shingle about one foot deep has been deposited. A largo sum of money will be required to put the Hutt Club’s course in playing order again.
The Heretaunga course escaped serious damage although the bridges over the creeks were washed away" and riverside holes were covered. Very little shingle, however, has been left on the course. Fairways and greens are little damaged and will soon be brought back to their former condition. Play has been carried on subsequently over 13 holes, BILLIARDS.
NEWMAN - V. LINDRUM. (Received 2 p.m.) LONDON, April 8. In the billiards match, Newman v. Lindrum, in which only breaks of 500 and over for Newman, and 750 and over for Lindrum are allowed, the scores are: Newman 8247, including a break of 1386; Lindrum, 6155.
