COMMUNAL CLASHES
GANDHI FAVOURS MOSLEMS. (Received 9.30 a.m.) CALCUTTA, April 7. The recent Cawnpore rioting, which was far worse than was at first reported, has created a tense atmosphere between Hindus and Moslems. Gandhi declares his readiness to advise the Hindus to concede practically all the Moslem demands for joint electorates in the new constitution if the community should become united. ' The European view favours separate electorates as the best guarantee of peace. , WOUNDED FIVE TIMES. DASTARDLY ATTACK. (Received 10.30 a.m.) DELHI, April 7. Mr James Peddie, a magistrate jit Midnapore, was wounded five times with revolver shots. He was visiting a school at Midnapore when the outrage occurred. No arrests have" yet been made.
