RATEPAYERS ANNOYED
“BED TAPE” WATERFRONT ROAD BARRED. (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day. Three miles of the waterfront road in the direction of St. Heliers and Mission Bay have been completed, but owing to the deeds of dedication not being completed this strip of the most expensive highway in New Zealand is not available for use. Ratepayers com sider that the position discloses “red tape” in its worst form. The explanation of officials of : the Public Works Department, however, is that the Auckland City Council cannot throw the road open, as it is not yet a .legal road and the council has no power to spend money in maintenance whilst that position obtains. It is suggested that special circumstances connected with the building of this attractive waterfront drive are such that dedication will require a special clause in the “Washing Up’* Bill, and that there is a possibility' of this asked for at the ordinary session of Parliament next October.
