Flying-Officer F.C, Owen, returned to Auckland by the express today.
The death occurred in Wellington, on Friday last, of Mr Joseph Dwyer, proprietor of the Midland Hotel since its erection fourteen years ago.
Mr D. M, Mclntosh, late postmaster at Hastings, succeeds Mr B. l’>. S. Brodie (retired) as chief postmaster at Napier.
Mr F, W. Fuvby, senior officer at the Wellington post, office, has boon appointed to succeed Mr A. Shelton as chief postmaster at Palmerston North.
Mr A. ,S. Warner, postmaster at Whakatane, has been transferred to Feilding, and Mr J. C. Connell, late postmaster at Carterton, has been transferred to Dannevirke.
The Rev. Dean Brocklehnrst, who has been receiving medical attention at the Napier Hospital for injuries received during the earthquake, has been discharged and is residing at Havelock North.
The lady, Mrs Phillips, who was killed in the motor upset on the Nelson road last week, was well known in the Whangarei district as Sister Baker. She was on the staff of the District Hospital about eight years ago.
The many friends of Mrs F. N. R. Downard will regret to learn of her admission to a private hospital. Mr Downard, who until recently was in charge of the Horn Hera School, is now teaching at Tuakau.
A large number of friends were at the Whangarei railway station today to farewell Mrs Brabazon and Miss Pettit, who left by the express for Auckland, where they will establish a home. Mrs Brabazon was presented with two beautiful bouquets.
Mr E. A. Reid, who recently retired on superannuation from his position as Director of Agriculture for the Cook Islands, arrived at Wellington by the Makura on Monday. Mr Reid, who holds the National Diploma of Horticulture, was sent on loan in 1908 from the New Zealand Department of Agriculture to organise fruit inspection in the Cook Islands. In 1913 he was appointed first inspector and was appointed Director of Agriculture in 1926, He has also acted as Deputy Commissioner during the absence of ■the Resident Commissioner from the islands.
