BOROUGH SALARIES.
(To the Editor.) Sir, —I do not, as a rule, take any notice of wild statements contained in letters to the editor, but in fairness to myself and other borough officials, I would like to correct some of Mr Hcey’s mis-statements. Mr Hoey, in both his letters, refers to increases granted to the higher paid officials last year. Quite untrue. There were no increases granted last year. Mr Hoey states definitely that over £2OOO per annum is paid to three of the borough i officials. Again quite wrong. The salaries of the three highest paid officials fall many hundreds of pounds below I this figure. Mr Hoey states that the I supposed £2OOO is one-fifteenth of the revenue collected by the borough. The ! revenue collected last year was £91,704. I Again something is wrong with Mr l.Hoey’s figures. 1 have no objection j to Mr Hoey attacking council members .—they are quite capable of defending themselves —but why the false and misleading statements about officers-’ salaries? —I am, etc., A. D. JACK.
