ABANDONED

ANNUAL ROTARY CONFERENCE

(Per Press A isolation.—Copyright.)

DUNEDIN, Tuesday

Tire District Governor of Rotary in New Zealand, Mr H. J. Guthrie, stated today that tire annual conference, which was to be held in Dunedin on February 18, 19 and 20, had been abandoned, on a general vote of the clubs. This action had been taken in sympathy with the sufferers in the earthquake disaster. Last week, Mr Guthrie cabled Chicago for authority to take this step if necessary. The Rotary rules stipulate that a conference must be held, and it'was imperative, before abandonment of the mooting could be decided upon, to obtain authority from the headquarters of Rotary International *iu Chicago. The International Rresident, Mr Roth, replied approving of the cancellation of the conference, and after conveying his sympathies to the people of New- Zealand, expressed ■the j hope that every reasonable effort 1 would be made to hold the meeting.
