AUSTRALIA, 2nd Innings (£> wickets) 314 —592 The conclusion of the maifeh was a memorable, one. The South Australian tail-eudersi were very tenacious, albeit lucky. Walker square-cut the winning hit for three, with five minutes to go. There was a. delay of ten minutes on account of Hunte, the wicket keeper, sustaining a head injury from a fast ball from St. Hill.
Constantine’s brilliant fielding was a feature of the game, Scott’s bowling- was very difficult, and at one stage lie had four wicketa for 26.

Southland, which commenced at Garisbrook yesterday, Southland won the toss and batted first. The weather for the first part of the day was ideal, but in tho afternoon heavy rain caused an adjournment for nehrly three-quarters of an hour. Southland made a fair start, but wickets then began to fall rapidly until McKelyey and Johnston became associated in a partnership which added 41. The whole team was out for 131, Chettelburgh, the slow bowler, getting 5 wickets for 49 runs. Otago made 353 runs lor six wickets, Dunning and D. Smith batting well for 147 and 96 respectively.
