At a largely-attended meeting of the congregation of First Presbyterian Church, Invercargill, on Tuesday evening, a unanimous invitation was extended to the Rev. A. G. Mackintosh Carter, 8.A., 8.D., of .South Melbourne, to become minister of the the church.

All the Indian merchants in Auckland closed their places of business yesterday, out of respect for the memory of the late Pandit Afopilal Nehru, Nationalist leader, whose death occurred bn Friday. Speaking to one interested in tourist traffic, a reporter of the "Advocate” was informed that during this last holiday season the tourist traffic has been remarkably brisk. .Special interest has been shown in regard to the new road to Russell, opened just after Christmas. Many of those visiting the Bay of Islands by this route have been delighted with the trip.
