QUESTION OF FINANCE, (Special to “Northern Advocate.”) AUCKLAND, This Day. j The position of, the proposed New Zealand cricket tour to Britain, in the matter of finance, as affected iby the recent earthquake disaster, was put fully before the Auckland Cricket Association’s Executive last night by a letter from the N.Z, Cricket Council. It was pointed out that after the economic depression had upset original plans for the guarantee, an Art Union permit find been obtained. A, sum of £OOOO had been anticipated from the Art union, but this estimate had to be revised under changes resulting from the earthquake tragedy. The council was committed to an art union, which would now be in competition -with a i national appeal for human relief, and would be relegated to a mere sporting and gambling proposition. Further, the loss of support which had been expected from Hawke’s Bay had to be faced.
The association, in view of further details being- forthcoming, decided to xvthhold its decision in the matter of taking up further shares in N.Z. Cricket Ltd. until the Auckland Cricket Association’s meeting 1 next week.
