By a margin of only one vote, the motion by Mr A. Harris (Waitemata) to reduce the Post and Telegraph Department vote by £9,, as a protest against the non-reinstatement of the Departmental officers dismissed at Auckland for divulging 'information contained in telegrams, was defeated in fthc House of Representatives yesterday.

Declaring that a gross miscarriage of justice had taken place, which reflected discredit on the Al.blister and the Department, Air Harris pleaded for the support of -all who opposed spy tactics and tapping of telephone wires. The division resulted in the defeat of the motion by 32 votes to 31. The division list w-as as follows; — For the Amendment (31).
