ART SOCIETIES

CONFERENCE OF DELEGATES,

VISIT BY LORD BLE'DISLOE

(Per Press Association. —Copyright.}

AVEiLLINiGTON, This Day.

A conference of delegates from the various art societies in the Dominion was held yesterday, the discussions being of quite an informal nature, but one of the subjects dealt with was the proposal of the Royal British and Colonial Society of Artists to hold, in London next year, a representative exhibition of art from all parts of the British Empire. The proposal is that the exhibition shall be held in the galleries of the Royal Academy of Arts for eight weeks, from early January to the middle of March. The English organisation expects there ■will be no difficulty in providing space for about 1600 pictures and bronzes, the average number accommodated in the rooms of tho Royal Academy,

Prior to yesterday’s meeting, the Governor-General paid an unofficial visit to the Art Gallery, where the conference was held. He received the members of the council and was introduced to the delegates, after which he inspected the pictures.
