At the inquest into the death of Betty Pranees Albrey, aged seven, who died in hospital on September 23, six days after a motor accident on Oroua Downs, Charles John Dunbar Skinner of Fielding, gave evidence that on September 15 he pa,s.-:ed a grader working
on. Die Gandon-Himatangi 80-ad, and was travelling; at not more than 20 miles per hour when, the girl darted out right in front of the ear. Ho swerved to the right to miss her, hut did not. apply the brakes as it was too late, and the bumper caught her. ‘Wiilliam Gilbert Hope, the grader l driver, 'said that Skinner’s ear, when j level with the grader, was travelling jatooto 05 miles an hour. The girl j ran across 00 yards in front of the | ear, which swerved to the right, struck j her, and pulled up 72 yards further on. jHe considered that had the brakes j been applied the accident would nor ! have occurred.
i The Coroner returned the verdict I that deceased died following a fraetur- ! od skull sustained through being knocki ed down by a car negligently .driven i by skinner.
