AN ACTUAL BLUEBEARD
SEVEN WIVES VANISHED,
(Received 2.32 p.m.) LONDON, October 1
The miraculous escape of Bluebeard’s eighth wife, as told in the fairy tale, has been re-enaeted in real life.
A man named Kulaxides was arrested on the eve of his eighth, wedding and charged with the murder of seven wives. Police entered the house at the height of < merry-making. The bride, a rich widow, who made over her property to Kulaxides, was so distracted that she became insane and
was sent to an asylum. The fate of six of the women has not been solved. The body of the seventh has only just been discovered in a ravine in Macedonia, terribly disfigured. The long immunity enjoyed by Kulaxidos was the result of his changing his name and domicile. A detective investigating the death of the seventh wife saw the prisoner shortly befofe the tragedy, recognise!! him again in Athens, and then discovered that before the disappearance of each wife Kuliyddes journeyed abroad with his wife and returned alone.
