OBITUARY
MR W. C. NEWMAN. (Per Press Association. —(Copyright.) DARGAVILLE, Saturday, The cloatli of Air William Charles Newman has removed one of the early settlers of the, Katui district. He arrived from Taranaki in 19T)(i and took up Government land, which was then bush. The holding has been transformed by the' dint of the industrious labours of Air Newman and his family into a fine farm. Air Newman’s home at the entrance to Waipoua Forest, is well-known to travellers and many enjoyed his hospitality. Deceased was always a, willing and generous assistant of movements of a deserving nature. Air Newman was a member of the Donnelly’s Crossing Sports Club, of the Hall Committee and of the Telephone Club, and belonged to the St. George Lodge of Freemasons, E.C. He is survived by his wife and the following children: Messrs John, Percy, and Henry Newman, of Ivafcui, Arthur and Louis Newman, of the Railway Department, Auckland, ..Misses Minnie and Alary Newman, of Katui; also by his mother, Airs Newman, of Wliangarei, BARON GLENDYNE. - (Received 9 a..m.) LONDON, June 14. The death occurred today of Baron Glendyue of Sanquhar, Dumfries, in his 81st year. He was a well-known Anglo-Australian Vfinancier and was senior partner of R. Nivison and Company. Ho was first holder of the title, which was created in 1922. His heir is the Hon. John Nivison.
