Tihe Department of Agriculture lias received the following cablegram, dated May .1, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand in London:— Tallow. —(Poor demand at auction this week, and an easier tendency. A total of 13til) casks was offered, and 200 sold. Present spot quotations arc; Mutton; Pine, .'l7/ to per ewt; fair to good, 111/ to 35/(5; dark to dull, •M/() to 32/. Beef: Sweet and/or mixed, 3(5/ to 42/; fair to good, 33/ to 35/; dark to dull, 31/ to 32/. Mixed: Pair to good, 32/6 to 34/(5; dark to dull, 31/ to 32/. Gut, etc., 28/ to 31/6. Hemp. Manila; Market easier under selling pressure and want of support. J. grade, April-i June shipment, sold at i £27 10/; May-July shipment, closing values, £27. «isal: Market dull and easier. Small speculative sale reported. March-May shipment, fair average quality, No. 1, £32; April-June shipment quoted at .sellers, £32 5/; No. 2 at £3l, with buyers holding back. Good marks, nominally, 10/- more. Mexican: .Sisal, good white, still nominally £37 10/, but no business being done. ■Stocks accumulating .anl big reductions expected. New Zealand market dull. Apples.—Market steady. Of the Taraaroa. shipment Willie Sharp and London Pippin show bad brown spot. The former an- selling at 10/ to 11/(5, and the latter at 9/0 to 11/. The Cumberland consignment, practically eloared. Cox’s Orange made .14/ to 18/; Dunn’s Favourite, 10/ to 12/; Jonathan, 12/ to 14/; Parl'in -Beauty, 11/ to 13/; Delicious, 13/ to 14/, The Port Brisbane- has just arrived. The apples are cold, but so far are in good condition. The opening ptriees are: Cox’s Orange, 15/ to IS/; Jonathan, 12/ to 14/; Dunn’s Favourite, 11/ to 13/; Delicious, ,13/ to 14/. Wool.—The 'Bradford market is firmer, with both Merino and crossbred moving well. Conditions favour an increased consumption as soon ms the strike has been settled. Present quotations for tops are: —‘(ills, warp, 2/5; (54’s, average, 2/4; s(s’s, 1/Si to 1/9; 50’s, .prepared, 1/5?,; 40’s, prepared, 1/31. Oats.—Market easier and consumption slow.
