The entire British press acknowledges the twentieth anniversary of the King’s accession with glowing editorial comment and photograph’s. They print many outstanding events of the reign. Although there were no special celebrations, the event was marked with the usual salvos of 21 guns at the Hyde Park, Windsor and other stations. The King, looking extremely well, has returned to London from Windsor. The Court will remain at Buckingham Palace. Messages of congratulation have been received from all over the world. The “Daily Chronicle” publishes a series of special messages from. M. Poincare, Mr Wakatsuki, (the Aga Khan, M. Painleve and General Berenguer, among others.

PEOPLE’S CONFIDENCE. THRONE FIRMER THAN EVER. (British Official Wireless.) (Received 12.46 p.m.) RUGBY, May 6. The newspapers, in leading articles on the twentieth anniversary of the accession of King George, emphasise that His Majesty has seen more changes—political, social and scientific—than any of his predecessors, the greatest event being the late war. While other thrones have tottered and fallen, the British throne stands firmer than ever before iii the confidence of democracy. The King visited thei ; Newmarket races today. His Majesty had not been on a racecourse since before his Illness in 1928. He looked remarkably well and chatted gaily •with the members of his party. His Majesty entered the totalisator building and ■watched with great interest the working of the machine.

NEW ZEALAND FEALTY. GOVERNOR-GENERAL*S MESSAGE. (Special to “Northern Advocate.’’) AUCKLAND, This Day, The following message was forwarded to the King by the Governor-Gen-eral, Lord Bledisloe, on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of His Majesty’s accession to the Throne:— “The Government and people of New Zealand, with whom I associate myself, rejoice in the opportunity of tendering to Your Majesty their respectful congratulations and good wishes bn the attainment of the 20th anniversary of Your Majesty’s accession to the Throne, and of expressing their feeling of deep thankfulness for Your Majesty’s restoration to health. They pray that Your (Majesty may long 'be spared to reign over your people united in their devotion to the Throne.”

To mark Accession Day, a Royal salute of 21 guns was fired at the Devonport naval base at noon. The warships in port were dressed with bunting until sunset. Flags were flown on all Government buildings provided with flagstaff’s, and upon many other buildings.
