Chief Justice, Sir Philip Street, iii sonissinofappeals of two bank robbers against their sentences, commented on the increase of serious crime. He said--that this was a disquieting circumstance, but- while nobody wished to see excessive severity reintroduced, which at one time was. a-, reproach, to this country, the punishment in future would have to tit the crime, as leniency might sometimes bo . mispla'eod and might do more ham than good.
