COMMERCIAL

WEEKLY MARKET* REPORT.

Messrs Dalgety and Co., Ltd., report as follows for tie week ended January 25: We are still experiencing considerable rain and the consequent growth. , of feed. The demand for all classes I of stock is very; finn but few sales " of breeding ewes or lambs are taking place, but with the close proximity of the Ewe Fairs, values will be established shortly and we anticipate a •strong demand for. all classes of sheep. At the present time it is a difficult .matter to forecast, with any degree pf certainty, values for breeding ewes. , The first Fair ,of the district hook .place at Eangiriri on Monday last, at which only a moderate offering came forward, the top price being 22/6 for a small line of 4 and 9-year-old ewes. Wethers still continue to sell well, with few lines offering. Store cattle are in especially strong demand and purchasers are now faced with having tb go further afield in ordef v to fulfil their requirements, We have a good demand for grown cattle but are unable to til same. Exporters have been operating fairly consistently on beef at about 37/ per 100 lb. Most of their operations have been confined to sales in the jjaddoek, as generally speaking sale ring values have been prohibitive, to their trade. Although beef at Westfield still continues to come forward in large numbers, values have remained practically the same far some considerable time, but the last-two sale® have indicated a slight easing. Our offerings of beef at Westfield have comprised mostly local lines, our sub-branches and agencies apparently not being able to persuade consignments to this market.

We have to report the following sales during the past week:

Helemrville.—An average yarding was offered, valuer for. all classes being well on a par with ruling rates. Special annual sale of Southdowns on account of Messrs Q. and R. Coates, Ruatuna, Matakohe,—'This fixture was held on Monday, arid, unfortunately, owing to the low ruling prices for wool and lamb, we did not have a strong enquiry and only a limited number of buyers attended the fixture. The stock, if anything, was better than last year, but as these breeders rear and breed their stock under natural conditions, it does not, of course, show off to advantage. How? ever, previous purchasers are always' repeat buyers and the sale eventuated satisfactorily. Wo append below a range of prices: Stud shearling B.D. rams realised to £lO 10s; shearling flock rams realised £6 6s to £8 8s; stud ewes, pne shear and over, £4 4s to £7 7s.

Tuakau Sale. —At this fixture we , offered a fair yarding of cattle which sold under steady competition at prices well up to late rates. .

BORING TOR OIL. 'LEAKAGE STOPPED. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.)’ GISBOBNE, This Day. .Taranaki Oilfields Ltd., report:— 'Gisborne No. 2 well.—‘Cemented off thp leak in the 8} inch diameter eaai, nff yesterday. Expect to resume drilling on Sunday,
