CRUISING CLUB
MEETING OF COMMITTEE. , At a meeting of the Committee of the W|iaingarei Cruising Club, over which Mr W. Reynolds, the commodore, presided, several matters in connection with the coming New Year’s Day regatta were discussed. A 22ft New Zealand, championship is to be introduced at this event. Sub-committees are in charge of securing entries for the yacht .and launch races at the regatta. TAURIKUR-A DANCE. The dance held in the Taurikura Hal! on Saturday proved to be another big success, and there was a large attendance. During the evening Mr W. Reynolds expressed the club’s thanks to those who had assisted in any way to make the dance so satisfactory, including Mesdames F. Reynolds, Weston and Bowden. Mr Reynolds extended greetings for Christmas and New Year to all those'present, and announced that another dance would be held on ,1 date in January or early February, to be decided upon later. ,
HARBOUR RACE. The race held down harbour resulted: —Twenty-two footers; Rahiri 1, Hilda 2. Fourteen-footers: Ranger .1, Snipe 2.
UNLIGHTED TRAIN DAMAGES AGAINST THE CROWN. (Pet Fren* Association.—Copyright.) WELLINGTON, Friday. Arthur John Curtis, Arthur Southwell, Curtis and Una Curtis, petitioned the Crown fur compensation as the result of a collision between their ear and an unlighted train moving across the siding on the Hjitt Road from the Gear Meat Company’s premises. In his reserved judgment, . Mr E. Page, S.M., found negligence on the part of tiio Railway Department and awarded £73 16s damages. Ho said, he was satisfied that as the car approached. there was no adequate light ' protecting- the train.
