PIPE TOBACCO TEST

NEW ZEALAND PRODUCT,

(Received 9 a.in.)

LONDON, November 17,

A London firm of tobacco merchants has imported 40 bales of Neg Zealand pipe tobacco to test the market. The warning is issued that if this small shipment is successful it does not follow that the market can absorb larger quantities. This warning is founded on experience with Rhodesian tobaccos, thousands of tons of which are now in Britain and arc not marketable. It is not a question of quality or whether it is equal to or better than Aairican tobacco. It is the different taste to which the public must be educated.

Many Englishmen who went to Afica to grow tobacco in Rhodesia and Nyassa are now said to be glad to drive tramcars.
