TRAINING COLLEGE TROUBLES.
BOARD AND DEPARTMENT
MINISTER REVERSES RULING.
WELLINGTON, This Day
The Education Board has another quarrel on with the Department over the appointment of the Vice-Principal to the Training College. According to the chairman, Mr. Eor-' syth, the present Minister of Education opposed the attitude of the Department on a former occasion when, for a long time the appointment of the Principal was held up till the Department eventually gave way, but now the Ministersupports it.
It is alleged that, after many conferences, the Minister agreed to allow the Board to re-advertse the position, but the day 'before the adverisement appeared new regulations were slipped through, on October ill, which he, the chairman believed were simply meant to ena'ble the Minister to appoint his own nominee, to whom the Board objected. Other boards supported* Wellington’s view.
Members, in the course of the discussion, took the ground they knew much bettor than the Department who was most suitable and a resolution was passed protesting against, “This move of the Minister ajid the Department in seeking to obtain centralisation and control, and against the gross act $f discourtesy in passing regulations without either consulting the boards or notifying them afterwards,” It was also decided to send this resolution to the Prime Minister and other boards.
