RARE OCCURRENCE

APPOINTMENT OF INDIAN

PROVINCIAL ACTING GOVERNOR

(Received 10.1 a.m.) DELHI, November IT

Interest has been created in political circles in India by the appointment of the Hon. S. B. Tambe, senior member of the Governor’s Executive Council, as Acting Governor of the Central Provinces, pending resumption of office by Sir Montague Butler.

This is the first time since Lord Sinhn’a appointment ns Governor of Bihar Orisia in 1920 that an Indian has been given provincial honour by the King on his own choice. It is likely that Mr Tambe will subsequently be knighted.
