RIVERS FLOODED.

All rivers in’the Wairarapa are running high and communication is Inetmipted in places. Casfclepointis cut off. The Waiohinc River ibeteen Carterton and Grey town , flooded the road to a depth of two feet and the Tauherenifcau also flooded low-lying lands.
The worst effect of the storm is a heavy slip oh the Rimutakas, -above Featherston. It is some 470 feet in height and though 30 workmen ate engaged in clearing, it will be some days before the road is' open. Passengers cannot even tranship, at present.
HEAVY SOUTHERLY. MIRAMAR UNDER WATER. PUMPING STATION OVERTAXED. (Per Press Association.—Copyright.) WELLINGTON, This Day. An exceptionally heavy southerly, with fierce gusts of wind and eontin- . uous rain, has flooded portion of the fiats in itho suburb of Miramar, where drainage works have ofily lately been started and are not yet complete. The water is a foot or more deep in places and some houses are out oft'. The pumping station, which deals with sewage, is unable to cope with . the extra water and sewage is finding its way into the 'flood waters.
The railway lino to the Hutt, which usually suffers fn a bad southerly, is not damaged so far. After ..the break, early in (the winter, a quantity of heavy concrete blocks from demolitions in the city was secured by the Railway Department and placed sis a curtain in the worst spots. They have acted as an effective screen to the embankment.
A later message states that the heavy southerly continued throughout last night, with high winds and heavy rain. Two inches of rain foil an the 24 hours to nine a.m. in Wellington City and about 3£ inches in the Hutt.
The Hutt' River is up, but the districts usually badly affected by water are less seriously so on the present occasion. There are numerous . small slips about, but nothing serious so far has been recorded. ;
Owing to inadequate storm* water drainage, Miramar Suburb is badly flooded and the tram service has been
suspended,
