HIDDEN IN A CAMERA
FIVE PEOPLE ARRESTED
-SYDNEY, This Day
A raid made by the -police on a house in Womerah Avenue, Darlinghurst, resulted in the seizure -of a quantity of cocaine and the arrest of three men and two women.
Sergeant Roach, Constables Wilson, Xye j Shields, Richards and Price, and Policewomen Medden and Rosor comprised he raiding party. They travelled to the house in motor cars, and in a few moments surrounded the building. Then the front and back doors were forced simultaneously. The occupants of the small house were taken completely by surprise. Sergeant. Roach told them that all would be searched, and to his surprso no one objected. Fashionably dressed women were carefully searched by the policewomen, and the men by the police. The search was fruitless.
A moment later a young woman knocked at the front door. She was admitted by the police, and was questioned. She demurred when asked a search being made of her clothing. However, the policewomen searched her fur coat, and, it is alleged, they found 35 small packets of cocaine.
A small camera lying on the table of the room in which the people were assembled when the police entered aroused the suspeion of Sergeant Roach. The back of the camera was prised off, and several packets of -cocaine fell upon the table.
Subsequently, at the Darlinghurst Police iStation, a young woman was charged with having cocaine in her possession, two men were charged with supplying cocaine to a certain person, and a man and a woman were charged with vagrancy.
