KIRIPAKA-NGUNGURU ROAD
It is just over four years since a deputation waited upon the Whangarei County Council and urged the construction of what is known as the river road from Kiripaka to Ngunguru. ft was definitely stated that tho settlers through whose properties the road would be constructed would not ask for compensation or for payment for fencing. The council told the deputation that the settlers must rely absolutely on the Government to construct the road as it was beyond the resources of the Riding at any time to undertake so large a work. The County Council has now been advised that the Minister of Public Works favours the construction of the new road rather than any attempt to improve the old road. As soon as the legalisation of the road line, including tho necessary fencing, is forthcoming, the Minister will have construction work commenced. This means that when the settlers have given tho necessary undertaking in writing 'the long looked forward to work of making the river road will be commenced; As the work will afford occupation for unemployed} it is hoped that no obstacle will be discovered.
