MATAPOURI

SOCIAL ENTERTAINMENT. During 'the past two months in addition to the ordinary monthly dances and euehve party, surprise parties have 'boon ithe order of the day. Organised mainly by the young people, they have gone with a swing and have been appreciated by all. Up to the present Mr and Mrs C. Pullman, Mr and Mrs Woolley and Mr and Mrs E. Clements- have been treated to a surprise. BIRTHDAY PARTY. On Friday evening, August 0, Mr and Mrs G. T. Jenkins gave a very pleasant dance in the local hall to celebratethe coming of age of their eldest -son, George. Nikau, lilies arid lycopodium made a very effective and pleasing decoration. The toasts, in the able hands of Mr Mackenzie and duly honoured, were: —“The King, ” “The Guest of Honour ’’ and “The Host and Hostess,” 'Suitable acknowledgement was made by Mr G. Jenkins, and then by Mr Jenkins, Senior, on behalf of himself and of Mrs Jenkins. Mr G, Jenkins was- the fortunate receiver of some very useful presents. One almost wished it was one’s own twenty-first birthday party. EUCHRE PARTY. The following night, 'Saturday, August 10, saw the hall again illumined and peopled by a happy company, but this time it was for the usual monthly euchre party. The ladies’ prize was shared between Mrs H. Donaldson and Mr G. Neale, while the gentlemen’s fell to Mr Jenkins. The respective boobv prizes were annexed by Miss Hangman and Mr G. Jenkins. Dancing concluded the evening ’,s entertainment.
